Accommodation

Photo: architecture in the foothills of the Annapurna regionThere are two main accommodation options for trekking in the Annapurna region - camping and teahouses/lodges.

The teahouse/lodge option is by far the most popular, and saves you having to carry camping gear and food or hiring porters to carry it for you.

Lodges are fairly basic. Some are simply extra rooms in a family home, while others are purpose built and cater to large numbers.

Lodge facilities vary. All provide hot food - generally fairly plain. Some provide attached bathrooms (sometimes with toilet only). Some have running hot water (watch for those advertising solar hot water systems), while others will be happy to oblige by providing you with a bucket of hot water.

Accommodation costs on average NRs100 per night, depending on location, facilities and season.
