Buying gear in Nepal

Photo: mules crossing a suspension bridgeIt is possible to buy just about all your trekking gear in Nepal. There are loads of well-stocked shops in Kathmandu (Thamel area) and Pokhara (Lakeside area), and even some with small stocks of gear in villages like Tal, Chame and Manang.

The problem with buying gear in Nepal is that it usually of poor quality. If you want your gear to last or be reliable, buy it before you come.

However it is useful to know that if you get caught in unseasonal weather conditions, you can buy extra gear (including raincoats and gaiters) if you need it.
