The Annapurna region of Nepal is one of the great trekking places, and Devendra is an expert guide who has the knowledge and experience to ensure his clients have a great experience. My wife and I walked the Annapurna Circuit in 2003, and enjoyed it so much with Devendra as our guide that we returned in 2005 to visit the Annapurna Sanctuary.

We could not have wished to have a more pleasant and professional companion than Devendra. He is clearly an expert in the region and planned our route, schedule, accommodation, sightseeing etc to fit in with our wishes and abilities. He is lots of fun too, very flexible, a good listener and a 'joker', and with a personality that breaks the ice with locals and other trekkers. If you are wanting to have personalised experience trekking in Nepal, then Devendra is an ideal guide.

"To me a guide is someone who's employed to know the way and highlight points of interest. Devendra is so much more than that. He's a larger than life character who will turn even the simplest of treks into an entertaining adventure. Where ever he is, you'll find him full of life, stories of adventure, entertaining both you and those around him. His advice and wisdom comes from years of experience in the Himalayas and you'll find learning what he has to teach to be a real pleasure.Photo: Devendra with Chris JansonAs a guide, he is very knowledgeable about every aspect of Nepal, from the culture of the local people right through to the flora and fauna. As a person, he is hugely entertaining and great fun to be around. The minute he walks into a village, he either already knows the locals, or he's up there chatting away with them, bringing a smile to their faces or as more often happens, having them in fits of laughter. The warmth that he generates from the locals is infectious and you'll find the locals showing you that same warmth in return. I cannot begin to explain how invaluable this is and how much it added to the enjoyment of our trek.

I cannot speak highly enough about Devendra. His kindness and warmth will soon have you feeling like he's part of the family, which has its downside in that you'll never want your trek to end, and when it does finally finish, it's a very sad goodbye and you'll find yourself counting the days until you return."

I did the Annapurna circuit trek with Devendra in October/November 2005 and had a ball. While the country is fabulous and the scenery spectacular, Devendra made a huge difference to my enjoyment of the trek.

He is a gregarious fellow - larger than life. He's always cheerful and upbeat, ever ready with a rhyme or song. And he seems to know everyone.

On our trek, the weather turned nasty, and there was heavy snowfall. Lots of trekkers were turning back and reporting that the pass at Thorung La was closed and would be closed for 10-12 days. Devendra said not to worry (actually, he said "no worry, chicken curry" - but that's another story!), and that we should keep going up slowly. He was confident the situation would change by the time we reached there. He was able to speak to porters coming down from the area to get an accurate assessment of the situation. And it turned out he was right. There was nothing to worry about and the pass was open when we arrived. If I'd been trekking without him, I may have turned back and missed out on the best adventure of my life!
